What is Kisan Credit Card or KCC?
The Kisan Credit Card (KCC) scheme is a credit scheme introduced by Indian banks in August 1998 to provide term loans for agricultural needs. This scheme of providing credit to farmers for purchasing seeds, fertilizers, agricultural machinery, etc. was prepared by the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD). The main objective of Kisan Credit Card or KCC is to meet the comprehensive credit requirements of the agriculture sector by giving financial support to farmers.

Participating institutions which provides Kisan Credit Card to farmers include all commercial banks, Regional Rural Banks, and state co-operative banks.
Features of Kisan Credit Card Scheme
The KCC scheme has short term credit limits for crops, and term loans. In addition, KCC credit holders are covered under personal accident insurance up to ₹50,000 for death and permanent disability, and up to ₹25,000 for other risk. The validity period of KCC is five years, with an option to extend for up to three more years. In addition, the Farmers will get a smart cum debit card and with the flexible repayment schedule of the loan amount.

Who are eligible for Kisan Credit Card Scheme?
Kisan Credit Card is available only to those farmers and individuals who satisfy the following eligibility criteria –
- Aged between 18 to 60 Years.
- Should own agricultural land or rented land for agriculture.
- The land should be active in agriculture.
- Borrower should have a good credit record.
How to Apply for Kisan Credit Card Scheme?
The farmer or individual having the above eligibility can approach the nearest commercial banks to avail the KCC scheme. The bank in turn shall undergo the formalities regarding the documentation process. Thus, within a period of 10 to 15 days the farmers will be given the smart cum debit card with the sanctioned loan amount for withdrawal.
